Statements on the Belinda Balluku case/The Constitutional Court reacts

The Constitutional Court issued a clarification this Monday regarding several statements recently made in the media regarding the case against Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.

Through a notice, it is emphasized that the statements from entities exercising public or private functions are untrue and it completely denies them.

"Following the public media statements made by various entities exercising public or private functions, regarding the procedure followed and the result of the vote for the decision-making of the Constitutional Court on the suspension of the implementation of judicial decisions no. 118, dated 19.11.2025, and no. 120, dated 22.11.2025, of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, for the part that ordered the imposition and continuation of the prohibitory measure "suspension of the exercise of a public duty or service" against citizen Belinda Balluku, the Constitutional Court refutes these statements as completely untrue.

The Constitutional Court recalls that this is an ongoing constitutional judicial procedure and that, on 22.01.2026, it will consider the matter in a public plenary session with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania as the applicant and the President of the Republic, the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, the Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime and the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime as interested parties. In order to guarantee the due process, according to constitutional standards, and to avoid any possibility of prejudice, even in appearance, all actors and persons involved in this public discussion are invited to be prudent and careful in their statements, not defaming individual judges or the institution of the Constitutional Court as a whole.

"The Constitutional Court reiterates its commitment to exercising its constitutional function with transparency and full respect for constitutional and legal procedures, once again calling on all actors to respect its integrity and authority, in order to ensure public trust and guarantee the independence of judicial decision-making, which under no circumstances should be influenced by any misinformation to the public, from any entity it may come from," the statement reads. /CNA
