Paunovic/Sve?la's statement: It is not personal, it reflects Serbia's

Kosovo's Interior Minister, Xhelal Sveçla, spoke this evening regarding the statements of Serbian Minister Snezhana Paunovic, which he said should not be considered personal statements by an individual.

Invited to "Now with Erla Mëhillin" on Euronews Albania, Sveçla said that that statement reflects Serbia's position.

"It is absolutely not a personal statement of an individual. First of all, she is the Minister of Public Administration and Local Government in the Serbian government, but it also reflects Serbia's position — a historical position against Albanians throughout history."

"It is not the first time that we are victims of Serbian violence. Given that even in the late 1980s we had a wave of displacement of Albanians from their lands, then also before World War II, as well as after World War II, the fact that most of the inhabitants or Albanians of Kosovo live outside Kosovo, the fact that we have a strong diaspora is as a result of Serbia's continuous repression of the citizens of Kosovo. This is just a new episode, a desire of her and her government to repeat the painful stories of Albanians ," the minister said.

Sve?la also commented on the position of the Serbian Interior Minister, saying that his position is not unknown to Albanians, as according to him he was Miloševi?'s number two.

"Nor is his stance unknown to Albanians. He is now Minister of Internal Affairs, he was also Minister of Foreign Affairs, he was also Deputy Prime Minister, he was Milosevic's number two. He is the chairman of Milosevic's party, the Socialist Party of Serbia, and they have never distanced themselves from Milosevic's genocidal policies, neither towards Albanians, nor towards Bosniaks, nor towards Croats.

But the fact that Serbia continues to be a destabilizing element for the region says enough. After all, Vu?i? himself was Sešelj's number two, convicted by The Hague for war crimes. Vulin was also the number two of Miloševi?'s wife. That means it's the same clique, the number twos in power, the same politics, but the circumstances are different.

"Albanians in Kosovo are no longer victims of Serbia, since we, our state, are strengthening the instruments of law and the apparatus that protects the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo every day. We are strengthening it every day, and besides statements, besides threats, these can also be at the level of desires ," said Sveçla. /CNA
