"Open Prisons"/ KAS paves the way for the Parliament to approve the law

The Sanctions and Complaints Committee has cleared the way for the Assembly to approve the draft law on "Open Prisons".

With the proposal of Nasip Naço, a prisoner serving a sentence in high-security prisons in Albania and who has served 2/3 of his sentence, can be transferred to a regular security institution without the need to go to court, but only at the request of the prison director.

The draft also stipulates that prisoners who have less than 2.6 years of prison time left to serve can serve their sentence outside of their cells, under the supervision of a minimum security perimeter, on condition that they secure a regular employment contract.

The CEC described this draft law as electoral, but the KAS has stated that it is not./ CNA
