The head of the parliamentary group and the vice-president of the DP, Gazment Bardhi, has filed an additional lawsuit in SPAK for the "McGonigal" case.

He has sent some additional documents where he demands the investigation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, saying that he is responsible for the affair.

In additional data submitted to SPAK, it is documented that McGonigal not only did not declare the receipt of the money, but advanced business interests and lied to the FBI about their joint activity with Edi Rama, thereby concealing the fact that he had a conflict of interest and private finance.

"Following the previous communications regarding the criminal report no. 14, of 2023, for which the criminal proceedings related to the Edi Rama - McGonigal case were registered, today the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party Gazment Bardhi, in his capacity as a prosecutor, addressed SPAK with additional information, accompanied by new documents, related to this serious affair, demanding the investigation of Edi Rama and holding him responsible for the corrupt affair.

On September 20, 2023, Charles McGonigal pleaded guilty to all charges, which included, among others, his visits to Albania, meetings with Prime Minister Edi Rama and "maintaining an ongoing relationship with him". In additional data submitted to SPAK, it is documented that McGonigal not only did not declare the receipt of the money, but advanced business interests and lied to the FBI about their joint activity with Edi Rama, thereby concealing the fact that he had a conflict of interest and private finance. The Federal Court of Washington convicted former FBI official Charles McGonigal, for "serious breach of public trust", regarding the 225 thousand dollars he received and the non-declaration of contacts with Albanian officials, including Prime Minister Edi Rama. In the decision of the American justice it is expressly stated that the fact that McGonigal had received money from someone who had introduced him to foreign officials in Albania "is a very serious violation".

From the facts and documents submitted today to SPAK, it is clear that the American justice bodies, the Prosecutor's Office and the Court, have already proven beyond any reasonable doubt that the citizen Edi Rama, acting Prime Minister of Albania, was involved in an illegal and corrupt relationship with the former high official of the FBI, Charles McGonigal, with the aim that Edi Rama would damage his opposing party, the Democratic Party of Albania, and the citizen Charles McGonigal would realize monetary benefits and state favors for the services offered to the Albanian prime minister' , announced Bardhi./ CNA
