The Chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, held a meeting with the co-rapporteurs for Albania in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Ionut-Marian Stroe and Pawel Jablonski.

Through a post on social media, Balla emphasized the majority's willingness to cooperate with the opposition in advancing electoral and administrative-territorial reform.

Part of the discussions, Balla states that there was also the legal initiative taken by the majority for referendums, as a mechanism for the direct exercise of sovereignty by citizens.

Balla underlines that Albania continues to guarantee and respect the rights of minorities, while in the field of media freedom he emphasizes that the Parliament approved a few weeks ago the decriminalization of defamation for journalists. In conclusion, Balla underlined that Albania remains committed to the path of reforms towards integration into the European Union.

"Meeting with the co-rapporteurs for Albania in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Ionut-Marian Stroe and Pawel Jablonski. We are ready to move forward together with the opposition with the electoral and administrative-territorial reform. We also discussed our legal initiative for referendums as a form of direct exercise of the sovereignty of the people, a right guaranteed by the Constitution, but made impossible by the lack of law. Albania guarantees and respects the rights of minorities, while regarding media freedom, the Parliament approved a few weeks ago the decriminalization of defamation for journalists. Albania continues resolutely on the path of reforms towards membership in the European Union ," Balla's post reads. /CNA
