Requests release from prison/ GJKKO postpones hearing for former minister Beqaj

The Special Court has postponed the session that was expected to be held today to review former minister Ilir Beqaj's request for release from prison.

The next hearing will be held on April 7, and it is reported that the postponement was made after the Special Prosecution Office requested time to review all the claims made by the former minister's defense.

Beqaj has been in prison since July 4, 2024, while investigative procedures are ongoing against him. The request for release comes at a time when the court is expected to review whether the conditions still exist for the continuation of the "prison arrest" measure or for a lighter security measure.

The decision of the GJKKO is expected to give a signal on the further progress of the case and the legal position of the former minister. /CNA
