The Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, presented the National Support Scheme for Farmers this Tuesday, announcing a significant increase in funds and subsidies for the agricultural sector.

At a press conference, he said that the scheme was designed in collaboration with farmers across the country and aims to support investments in greenhouses, orchards, vineyards, livestock, agricultural mechanics and agritourism.

According to the minister, young farmers will benefit from up to 10 thousand euros in grants, mainly for investments in livestock. Meanwhile, other concrete support is also foreseen:

-Up to 3 million lek for the construction of stables

-About 500 thousand lek for agricultural equipment and machinery

-Increased subsidies for the livestock sector

Support for cattle increases from 10 thousand to 12 thousand lek per head, for small animals from 1200 to 1500 lek, while for beekeeping the subsidy doubles from 1 thousand to 2 thousand lek per hive.

There are currently around 600,000 beehives in the country, with the goal of reaching 1 million by 2027.

The scheme also provides for a subsidy of 7 thousand lek for sows, thus also including the pig raising sector.

This scheme benefits farms that meet the minimum criteria, such as 5 cows, 50 small animals, 25 hives or 5 sows. There will also be support for biological pest control in greenhouses, where funding reaches up to 70% of the cost.

The scheme also includes the aquaculture sector, supporting fish farming in inland waters, as well as farmers with over 3 hectares of land, who will receive payment for each hectare planted.

The focus is also on agricultural cooperatives, which this year will be supported 100%, as well as farms with certified organic production./ CNA
