From curbing depopulation to local government autonomy/ The DP's objectives

The Democratic Party held an open meeting today within the framework of the Territorial Reform.

The Vice President of the Democratic Party and at the same time co-chair of the Special Commission for Territorial Reform, Luciano Boçi, outlined the objectives of the Democratic Party for the reform during his speech.

Boçi said that the essence is to increase the number of municipalities and create them where there is distance. He said that this is a strong solution, because according to him, basic services are restored to the citizen.

"The objectives of the Democratic Party for this reform are to curb the country's depopulation, function, decentralization and autonomy for local government, service to the most remote citizen, Europeanization of local government. This is achieved through and increase the number of municipalities, especially in areas with a lack of services. The essence is the creation of new municipalities where there is distance. Our solution is strong because it restores basic services to the citizen, increases accountability, strengthens local democracy, and does not create high additional costs. We consider alternating the increase in the number of municipalities with the role of regions or counties to achieve real decentralization ," Boçi said. /CNA
