Today, the presidency of the Interreligious Council of Albania held its first meeting for 2026.

At today's meeting, the World Grandfather of the Bektashis, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, was handed the position of Chairman of the Board of the Presidency of the Interreligious Council of Albania.

A task that the World Grandmaster will hold for the period January 2026 - January 2027.

At today's meeting, the final phase of the INFSH strategic plan for the years 2026-2028 was also presented.

 

Interfaith Council Statement

 

The Board of the Presidency of the Interreligious Council of Albania (IRC) held its first meeting of 2026 on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The meeting held at the premises of the Bektashi World Patriarchate was attended by: H. Bujar Spahiu, President of the Muslim Community of Albania; His Beatitude Joani, Archbishop of Tirana and All Albania, Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania; Mons. Gjergj Meta, President of the Episcopal Conference of Albania; H. Dede Edmond Brahimaj, World Patriarch of the Bektashi World Patriarchate; and Pastor Erion Sylari, President of the Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania.

The meeting was initially opened by the host Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, who welcomed the Board. Then Mons. Gjergj Meta, the acting president of the IFC, based on the statute of the Interreligious Council of Albania and the rotation approved by the Presidency Board, handed over the task to the World Grand Patriarch of the Bektashis, Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, who will chair the Presidency Board for the period January 1, 2026 - January 1, 2027.

Following the agenda, the Secretary General of the IFC, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Genti Kruja presented the final phase of the IFC Strategic Plan, drafted by the working group for the period 2026-2028. The plan sets out the main orientations of the Interreligious Council's activity for the next three years, with a focus on strengthening interreligious dialogue, promoting peaceful coexistence through education with universal values, and increasing the role of youth and women in society. After review and discussions, the Strategic Plan was unanimously approved by the Presidency Board, composed of the heads of the five religious communities.

Then, Attorney Sheldiana Jano Agaraj presented the financial activity and then the Board approved the budget for 2026, which will serve to support the activities and projects planned within the framework of the implementation of the Strategic Plan.

During the meeting, discussions and proposals were held by members of the Presidency Board on current social issues and the role of religious communities in addressing social, educational and cultural challenges.

In conclusion, the decisions taken were signed and other issues of interest for the activity and further engagement of the Interreligious Council of Albania in the service of dialogue, harmony and interfaith coexistence in the country were addressed./CNA
