Race for the head of the Guard / 3 names revealed, including a former MP

The competition for the head of the Republican Guard was opened in December by the Ministry of Interior and this Monday, three of the names expected to join the list of those interested in this position were announced.

Media sources indicate that so far there are three names in the race:

1. Faik Basha, security expert

2. Denis Deliu, former Socialist Party MP

3. Simon Zereci, current commanding head of the Guard.

The deadline for applications for this position was December 30, 2025.

The commission set up by the Ministry of Interior must select the new head of the Guard within 45 days of the opening of the competition.

Currently, the Republic Guard is led by Commander Simon Zereci, who has held the position since June 3 of this year, following the resignation of Ermal Onuz. /CNA
