Former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, has publicly reacted to developments in the “Sterilization” issue. Beqaj claimed that this is not an issue directly related to the sterilization concession, as he said that the issue is only one of the six components of the contract.

Beqaj also shared allegations regarding the way this file is being presented, saying that there are other people involved in this matter.

Beqaj stated that the legal defense was not carried out by the lawyer he himself requested, but by a lawyer appointed by the court, who according to him had not even read the file.

"First of all, it is not about the issue of sterilization, nor about the sterilization contract, nor about the concession in question. These are not even mentioned in the title of the contract. Sterilization is only one of its six components. It is about surgical instruments. They refer to the file as 'Ilir Beqaj and others'. I am the last in the court's request. Why should it be said like this? This presents the others as if they are there because of me. I aim for innocence and this is only a nominal, not a factual data. I requested to have a lawyer, Maks Haxhian, as the head of the Bar Association. The lawyer primarily appointed by the court stated within two weeks that he was ready for defense, without reading the file and without ever meeting me. I would like to have been informed by the court when this lawyer came to familiarize himself with my file", - Beqaj said./CNA
