The Institute of Political Studies (ISP) has issued a statement about the tragic accident in Këlcyra, where 8 people lost their lives, one of whom was the Shkodran driver and the other 7 were clandestine.

ISP expresses its condolences to the families of the victims, while appealing to the authorities for their identification.

Also, the ISP asks the Albanian government to cover all the costs of sending their bodies to their families in the country of origin, stressing that the loss of life in our territory is a legal and moral responsibility.

The statement emphasizes that the authorities must begin a thorough investigative process, transparency and full accountability by the responsible bodies.

"Sad news and tragic event, the loss of life of 8 citizens, including 7 foreign citizens, immigrants, victims of crossing into our territory through illegal clandestine traffic lines.

Being a country with many tragic stories and loss of innocent lives in attempts to emigrate to other countries, today's case constitutes the most tragic event with foreign immigrants already towards our country.

Expressing its condolences to the families affected by the tragic event, ISP appeals to the bodies for their identification, as well as the Albanian government to cover all the costs of sending their bodies to their families in the country of origin. Illegal crossing of the border is a legal offense, but the loss of their lives in our territory is a legal and moral responsibility. They were victims of traffic lines within Albania, but also of the lack of law enforcement.

This is the occasion to express the regret that such events have not been prevented through more effective measures against clandestine trafficking lines, for better border and road control. It is also the case to demand from the authorities an in-depth investigative process, transparency and full accountability from the responsible bodies.
