"Whoever made mistakes should be held accountable one by one."

This is what the mayor Erion Veliaj said about the Tirana landfill issue.

During an interview, Veliaj called the statement previously given by the State administrator exhaustive, who stated that the municipalities had not paid off their obligations. He has admitted that the municipality of Tirana is also behind with payments.

He further stated that the fact that the landfill has passed to the administration of the state does not mean that the fees will not be paid.

The mayor said that the same fee will be paid, as it has always been.

Among other things, he emphasized that the Municipality has implemented the law and that its duty is to clean the city. Veliaj underlined once again that whoever made mistakes should be held responsible.

"With the landfill issue, we had an exhaustive statement from the state administrator. According to him, the municipality has not been diligent with the payments, so we are behind with the payments.

Taking it from the state doesn't mean it goes for scrap.

The municipality has implemented the law. Whoever made mistakes in this matter should bear the responsibilities. My task is to clean the city. We have done it without changing the tax since the time when Edi was there. It's the same fee he's been paying all his life.

What we understood is that the state administrator requested the payments. Whoever made mistakes should be held accountable one by one. State administration eliminates speculation about where the money goes.

The administrator will maintain its own balance and request payments. Tirana of garbage and dross will never come back," stated Veliaj./CNA
