Iran's national team will not participate in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The decision was confirmed by Iranian Sports Minister Ahmad Donyamali during a television interview. He stated that the political situation and the recent conflict in the Middle East make it impossible for the team to participate in the tournament.

According to him, relations with the United States and recent developments have directly influenced this decision.

However, US President Donald Trump had previously expressed hope that Iran would participate in the tournament as normal. FIFA President Gianni Infantino had also stressed the importance of the World Cup as an event that brings countries together.

Iran was part of Group G and was set to play its matches in the United States. FIFA is now expected to decide which team will replace Iran in the competition.
