UEFA gives 233 million euros in bonuses, how much did Albanian clubs benefit

UEFA has announced the distribution of a record amount of €233 million to 901 football clubs across Europe as part of the Club Benefit Programme.

This program includes rewards for teams that have contributed players to national team matches during the 2020–2024 period, including the qualifying stages and finals of the European Championship "EURO 2024".

The distribution was made among clubs representing UEFA's 55 member associations. The funds were generated mainly from commercial income obtained through television rights and sponsorships related to this year's European Championship finals.

The biggest beneficiaries of this program are the clubs that regularly supply European national teams with high-level players.

According to published data, English clubs have benefited from around 47 million euros, followed by Italian ones with 35 million euros, German ones with 30 million and Spanish ones with 22 million euros.

In stark contrast to these figures representing the elite of continental football, clubs from Albania and Kosovo have benefited from a very small share of the overall fund. In total, Albanian clubs have received around 150 thousand euros from this reward.

The largest share of this amount has benefited Tirana, with more than 84 thousand euros. Egnatia has collected over 36 thousand euros, while Partizan over 29 thousand euros. Similar amounts are also for the clubs of the Kosovo Super League, with around 121 thousand euros divided between three clubs: Balkan, Dukagjini and Llapi.

Such amounts represent modest profits compared to the operating costs of clubs and the figures distributed to major European clubs.

However, for Albanian clubs, this is a welcome income in a context where budgets are limited and investments in football rely mainly on local resources and regional sponsorships.

The Club Benefit Program will continue to operate in future international tournament cycles, and the value of the rewards may change depending on the representation of players in national teams and the performance of the teams in official competitions.

For countries with smaller and less developed leagues, regular participation of players in the national team remains one of the few ways to ensure direct benefits from UEFA's international activities.
