"He is a traitor", politics makes the two legends of Brazil enemies:

Romario and Bebeto. Two Brazilians who between the eighties and nineties lit up the squares where they played with their goals and of course they did it in the Seleçao as well. They are almost always mentioned together, over time even more so. Their USA '94 signature is capitalized. They were the talk of Brazil until the explosion of the Ronaldo Phenomenon. They used to get along on and off the pitch, but now they've had a falling out and the course of their relationship is completely different.

In January 2022, on the occasion of Romario's birthday, Bebeto wrote a heartbreaking post. He posted a series of photos on his social profile and wrote a heartbreaking letter: "Today football is celebrating. This genius and football star is celebrating his birthday. Romario, you were not just the best player and my best partner in attack. A true brother, someone that God has placed in my life to be a family. I was by his side, I experienced the best moments of my career as a player. You deserve everything that is most sacred in this life. That God is always next to you, to enlighten you and your whole family. I love you!".

Something broke and loudly too because of politics. Romario has been involved for years and was re-elected senator. Instead, Bebeto chose the opposite faction, but failed to become a senator. On Garotinho's podcast, Romario was very harsh: "Bebeto? He's a traitor. He betrayed me in politics, jumped from one branch to another. There are some things in life that last forever, on and off the field and from politics. When a a friend betrays you, it's sad".

Bebeto's response was equally severe. And it seems really complicated to think about a reconciliation after hearing the words of the former Deportivo La Coruna striker: "Who is he to call me a traitor? Romario is getting old and I think he is getting sclerotic, he says a lot of stupid things. He is selfish, he always thought only about himself".
