Ronaldo warns of retirement: Next World Cup will be his last

Next year's World Cup will be Cristiano Ronaldo's last with the Portugal jersey.

In an interview with CNN, the Portugal captain confirmed that the upcoming World Cup will be his sixth and final. The tournament will be held next summer in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and Portugal is very close to securing a place in the finals.

Ronaldo, who has turned 40, stated that although he feels his body is still in good physical condition, he is approaching the end of his long journey in professional football.

He has stated that he intends to retire from the game within a year or two. The Portuguese captain is currently close to reaching another personal goal, the symbolic figure of 1,000 career goals scored for club and country.

"The 2026 World Cup will definitely be the last World Cup for me. I will be 41 years old then. In football I try to enjoy every moment to the fullest. For 25 years I have done everything. I hold many records, both at the collective and national level. I am really happy, so I want to live in the present and enjoy it.

"I want to continue because I feel good and my body is in good shape. My goal in football is the same as in life, which is to make people happy. Let's be honest, though, when I say I'm going to retire soon, I mean in a year or two," Ronaldo declared.
