Goalkeeper causes fatal accident, Inter makes immediate decision

A tragic event occurred this morning in Fenegro, in the province of Como. At around 9:40 am, an 81-year-old man using an electric wheelchair was fatally hit by a car driven by Inter's second goalkeeper, Josep Martinez, who was heading to the training center in Appiano Gentile.

The collision was severe and, despite the immediate intervention of the footballer and the arrival of the ambulance, helicopter and carabinieri, the elderly man died on the spot.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim had left the bike lane to cross to the other side of the road as Martinez's vehicle was approaching.

The footballer, who suffered no injuries, immediately stopped to provide first aid, but was in a state of shock.

The road was temporarily closed for investigations, while the vehicles involved were seized. Following the incident, Inter cancelled coach Chivu's scheduled press conference.
