Another scandal in Turkey, referees exposed for betting on sports

Turkish football has been embroiled in another major scandal, this time related to illegal betting. Authorities have revealed that hundreds of referees are under investigation for involvement in banned activities.

According to the president of the Turkish Football Federation, Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu, out of 571 registered referees, 371 have active accounts on betting sites, while 152 have participated directly. 22 of them are referees at the highest levels of competitions.

One of the suspects has placed over 18,000 bets, while 42 others have exceeded 1,000 bets each.

The Turkish Football Federation has warned of immediate disciplinary measures and punishments without exception. The incident comes at a time when Turkish football has been rocked by a series of scandals involving officials and referees.
