Historic moment in the World Cup, a new rule was implemented by VAR

The match between the United States of America and Paraguay at the World Cup has marked a historic moment for world football.

For the first time in history, the VAR system has intervened to apply the new rule called "Wrong Identity".

This new FIFA rule allows the referee to reverse and correct the initial decision if the card was given to the wrong person. In this case, Dutch referee Danny Makkelie had initially booked American defender Tim Ream for a foul on Miguel Almiron.

After the VAR signal, Makkelie reviewed the video on the monitor, which clearly showed that the Paraguayan striker had completely exaggerated the contact. As a result, the referee removed the yellow card from American Ream and penalized Almiron for simulation.
