Serious injury/ Belgium midfielder tears ligament, World Cup ends

Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana suffered a serious injury during the round of 16 match against the USA.

Medical examinations confirmed a rupture of the posterior cruciate ligament in his knee, which forced the player to leave the field of play despite an initial attempt to continue.

Onana has been one of the key midfield players in the formation selected by coach Rudi Garcia for this edition of the World Cup.

After the match, which was won by the Belgians 4-1, his teammates honored him by unveiling his number 24 jersey.

Despite the extent of the injury that will force him to end the tournament early, the midfielder has decided not to leave the squad. He will remain with the European team to support the group in the upcoming challenges.
