Chelsea not giving up, ready new offer for Xhaka

Chelsea continue to pursue Granit Xhaka, even though their first offer for the midfielder has been rejected by Sunderland.

The London club had offered around £8 million, but Sunderland's management refused to negotiate for this amount.

Chelsea are reportedly preparing a new bid worth between £10m and £12.5m, plus bonuses, for Granit Xhaka, with the midfielder reportedly open to a move to Stamford Bridge.

An important role in this operation has coach Xabi Alonso, who wants to work with the Albanian midfielder again after his experience at Bayer Leverkusen. Sunderland, however, consider the 33-year-old one of the most important figures in the team and do not want to sell him.

Xhaka joined the club last summer for around £17.5m and was immediately handed the captain's armband. The situation remains open as Chelsea's next move in the transfer market is awaited.
