Livestock market in Stom Golem/ Third case discovered in Malësia i Madhe

The animal market in the village of Stom Golem in Shkodra operates every Sunday, mainly with cattle and small livestock. The latter have been missing for weeks due to the ban on their trade.

Veterinary service inspectors conducted inspections, warning farmers about the measures they should take to limit the disease.

"Since June 4, plague has appeared in the Shkodra region among small ruminants. In this context, we are taking all measures with the sole aim of minimizing the damage caused by this disease. In cooperation with veterinary service inspectors and the municipal police, we are carrying out checks on farms, roads and markets. The only movement that is allowed is outside the infection map. There are 2 markets in Shkodra, the Shelqeti and Stom Golem markets. Farmers must understand that the only way to stop the spread is to restrict movement," said Mark Preçi, head of the Shkodra veterinary service.

A few days ago, another case of plague was discovered in Shkrel, Malësia e Madhe. A total of 300 heads were destroyed.

"A new case was recently discovered in Malësia e Madhe. All procedures have been completed and 300 heads have been destroyed. From an organizational point of view, it was a farm with all the conditions, but it turned out to be affected by the plague," said Preçi.

Since the first case appeared in the Postrriba Domain, at the beginning of June, 2 new cases have been added to the Shkodra region, causing around 500 small animals to be destroyed./CNA
