178 small animals destroyed in Shkoda/ Compensation challenge, due to

At least 178 small animals have been destroyed on two farms that have been affected by the plague of small ruminants in Shkodra. The head of the veterinary service, Mark Preçi, says that controls are being carried out every day, with the aim of further preventing cases.

"With the confirmation of the second case in Shkodra, the veterinary service has strengthened controls. Currently, we have different groups that are monitoring the markets, especially in the 10 km radius. A total of over 178 heads have been destroyed on both farms. The process was carried out according to all standards and the meat was handled by the company that has a contract with the veterinary service," said Preçi.

It seems that it will be difficult for farmers to receive compensation, although the Ministry of Agriculture has given the green light in principle. This is also due to the lack of matriculation in the case of Postriba.

"The Deputy Minister of Agriculture publicly stated that the government is looking into the possibility of compensating them. Despite the fact that this is a very damaging disease and our goal is to minimize the damage. The registration process is the most important step in the relationship between the farmer and the veterinarian. Without registration, there is no compensation. The case of Postriba is worrying because he stated that he bought them on the black market, while in the case of Trushi, they were registered," said Preçi.

The first case detected in Shkodra was at the beginning of June in the Postriba area, while the second case tested positive a few days ago in the Trush area, a suburban village of Shkodra. /CNA
