Report: Europe's tech ecosystem is at a "crossroads"

Europe's tech ecosystem is at a "crossroads" and if it is to keep up the pace of progress, sustained investment in sectors such as climate technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and defence will define Europe's next decade, warns the report 'State of European Technology 2025'.

However, the report asserts that Europe has the talent and innovation, but that Europe lacks the alignment between ambition and commitment.

"Technology sovereignty is not about protectionism, it is about agency and choice - building the capability, trust and capital to shape the future, while preserving the freedom to act independently and lead on Europe's terms," ??the report says.

The annual report uses public data and a survey of approximately 2,500 people in the tech industry to give an overall picture of where the continent stands with technological advancement.

The report found that the funding landscape in Europe has already shifted towards AI dominance, with 31% of all funding raised in 2025 going to AI or machine learning companies./CNA
