WHO warning: 1 in 7 Europeans under 20 have a mental health problem

According to a new report from the World Health Organization, mental health problems are a growing crisis among Europe's children and adolescents.

1 in 7 Europeans under the age of 20 have a mental health problem, an increase of a third over the last 15 years.

Girls are disproportionately affected, with one in four girls aged 15 to 19 reporting a mental health problem.

Concerns about the mental health of young people have increased significantly in recent years, with a report published earlier this year citing social isolation, the COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing geopolitical conflicts, and socioeconomic instability as potential triggers for mental health problems.

This report found that teenagers in the Danish territory of the Faroe Islands, along with Iceland and Denmark, ranked highest for mental well-being, while those in Ukraine, Cyprus and Poland ranked among the lowest./CNA
