Research gives dire warning: Climate change is killing us 'silently'

The data on deaths caused by climate change is constantly updated and becoming increasingly frightening. Research reveals that people are losing their lives to factors such as heat, fires, but also diseases, which are linked to changes in climate caused by global warming.

Thus, in parallel with efforts to address the causes of climate change, another, equally critical issue is emerging: health protection.

The Lancet Countdown report, published a few days ago, contained some startling statistics about the effects of climate change on health. The most striking, numerically, was that one person dies every day due to heat.

But equally important are the statistics on the evolution of heat risk.

The report found that the rate of heat-related deaths had increased by 23% between 1990 and 2010, even after taking into account population growth./CNA
