For the week ahead, our country is expected to experience "hell on earth" with extremely high temperatures both in maximum and minimum values ??and prolonged in time (days).

According to SHMU, this situation comes as a result of the pronounced influence of the African Anticyclone (and not only after it gradually merges with the Azores Anticyclone) accompanied by hot air masses originating from North Africa (Sahara desert).

The weather is expected to be mostly clear in most of the territory, but along the hilly-mountainous reliefs in the afternoon and in the afternoon there will be passing clouds.

In the mountainous reliefs in the east, mainly on Thursday and Friday, the clouds will be accompanied by rain with low intensity. In short-term periods and locally, these precipitations will be in the form of thunderstorms or downpours accompanied by electrical discharges and hail.

This week is expected to be "torturous" for several reasons and one of the main ones is that the heat wave is lasting (taking into account the days left behind) and will last until the end of the week. That being said, our country has experienced temperatures of 40 or 42-43°C for the period we are in, but for a period of time no more than a few days (mainly 3-4 or maximum 5 days).

The other reason is that the penetration of these hot masses over the Mediterranean Sea causes them to carry with them a relatively high amount of moisture.

In this way, if in the meteorological cage the mercury of the thermometer can mark up to 42°C for the human body, this temperature feels several degrees higher due to the high humidity.

The situation would be different if the air masses were dry and our body would feel these temperatures a few degrees lower.

It is also worth noting the fact of high temperatures in the evening hours, as it is otherwise known by the term "tropical nights".

With temperatures that do not drop below 26-27°C (mainly urban areas) and high humidity in the air, the nights are expected to be "suffocating" just like in tropical countries where at noon temperatures reach 38-40°C while in the evening they do not drop below 28-30°C.
