Study: Regular drinkers over 60 have higher risk of dying

A recently published study has revealed important data.

People over 60 who drink alcohol regularly have a higher risk of dying, due to cancer or problems related to the heart and blood vessels.

This finding was the result of a large study , published by the journal "JAMA Network Open" of the American Medical Association.

Experts have collected the data of more than 135 thousand people, included in dozens of studies, who lived in the United Kingdom.

The average age of the people involved in the study was 64 years.

Researchers compared 12-year health outcomes for infrequent drinkers and daily drinkers, even in small amounts.

Health experts found that any amount of alcohol consumption is associated with significant health risks.

Study: Regular drinkers over 60 have higher risk of dying

The greatest health risks were seen among those who drank alcohol regularly.

The high-risk group included men who drank an average of about three drinks a day or more, and women who drank an average of about one and a half drinks a day or more.

Daily drinkers had a 33% higher risk of dying at an earlier age, a 39% higher risk of dying from cancer and a 21% higher risk of dying from heart and blood vessel problems .

On the other hand, those who drank one alcoholic drink or less per day had an 11% higher risk of dying from the tumor.

However, alcohol users overall were at risk for more health problems than nondrinkers./ CNA
