Long-term lung damage after Covid-19 disease

Many people who recover from COVID-19 suffer long-term symptoms of lung damage, including difficulty breathing, cough, fatigue, and limited ability to exercise.

In Albania, there is still no study published by the doctors of the university hospitals, but I am writing about what I have investigated myself in the multitude of cases that I have followed before and after leaving the hospital.

About 1/4 of patients who have been hospitalized for the disease of Covid-19, experience long-term discomfort.

DB, 42 years old, from Durrës was admitted to the Covid-1 hospital of QSUT-sw with Covid-19 in April 2020.

In a friendly conversation about 20 months after being discharged from the hospital, the person in question told me:

- Before I got sick from Covid, I was a very active person, I worked all day, for 10-14 hours in construction. Now I have weakness, I can't work more than four hours a day, and I have to stop the activity often.

Weakness, cough, memory loss, confusion accompany me every day, the 42-year-old tells me.

Although I have used a lot of antibiotics, several doctors from Tirana and Durrës, who had visited him, listed me, I have not improved significantly, the 42-year-old continues to say.

As a doctor, I have met many people of different ages and genders with problems that continue for a long time, even though they have been sick for months, and this is devastating for some of them, as they lose their jobs, cannot perform daily tasks, return to burden for the family, relatives, etc.

It's still unclear how and why the virus causes some people to suffer long-term lung effects after a COVID-19 infection, but we know how to help you rebuild your immune system, which has been destroyed by the virus and antibiotics.
