The political leader of the Democratic Party for Tirana, Belind Këlliçi, has declared that as of today, de facto and de jure Erion Veliaj is a resident of the Durrës district and a voter in Durrës.

In an interview for the show "Ora e Betit" on "Ora News", Këlliçi stressed that Veliaj should have resigned or been dismissed as mayor by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"The machinery that bought tens of thousands of votes in Tirana, which is the municipality of Tirana, today does not function as it did before.

Even though Rama has given his full guarantee that he is now the mayor of Tirana and that he is the one who guarantees that the municipality employees will continue to steal votes.

Basically yes, Veliaj is not campaigning today. Veliaj is from today de facto and de jure a resident of the Durrës district. He is a voter in the Durrës district.

A resignation or dismissal of Veliaj by the prime minister should have automatically followed.

Based on the law of the Republic of Albania, a mayor who loses permanent residence in the area where he heads the municipality can no longer be the head of that municipality. And today Veliaj is a resident of Durrës and votes in the Durrës prison./ CNA
