Tirana Municipal Council member Ilir Alimehmeti said today that the opposition candidate for the Tirana Municipality elections could also be a name from the civil society.

In a television interview, Alimehmeti said that it is important for the opposition that the candidate be consensual.

Alimehmeti added that the opposition should also go to the local elections towards national reconciliation, to leave the remnants of hatred behind.

"A figure not necessarily political. It could be from the civil world. It could be someone who was involved in politics in the past and then for a long period has gone out of politics again. So, we are open. The important thing is that it be consensual. In the face of the greatest evil that we face, these things must be forgotten.

We must move towards a national reconciliation in this direction. Let's leave the small things, the small messes. They may be very big for the respective actors, but in the face of such a great evil we must leave these things aside and go with a united front. Here the name of the candidate absolutely helps a lot, because these are local elections.

"These are not parliamentary elections. This is direct democracy. So, you directly elect the individual and the individual has a key value here, a central value. So, who is the candidate in each municipality that will be elected," Alimehmeti said. /CNA
