How the Adriatik Lapaj protest started and ended

This past week, the 108-day protest of Adriatik Lapaj, leader of "Albania Is Becoming," ended. The protest began on December 8, 2025, in front of the Prime Minister's office in Tirana, in what was described as a symbolic standoff, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"I am starting a protest as a citizen, I will be there day and night without stopping, in the coming days I hope hundreds and thousands will gather," Lapaj declared on December 8.

A protest that began with momentum and promises of major actions against the government, but resulted in a failure in the first few days due to low participation and poor organization.

The protests organized by Lapaj had no more than 30 people present. The space in front of the Prime Minister's Office was almost empty, with only two or three supporters standing around during the day.

Lapaj himself has abandoned his protests time and time again, despite promising to stay for 24 hours straight.

In these protests where Lapaj himself was absent, who often gathered with two people in front of the Prime Minister's Office, he showed the failure of a "kaposhi" who sang on top of the garbage that he built in the 2025 elections and ended with ridiculous political acts, from abandoning Endri Shabani for a seat, to one of their MPs who simply warms the seat in the Assembly and shows us how ridiculous they are as a movement.

Lapaj's protests took place separately from the main opposition protests, giving the image more of a protest for Lapaj's personal interests than a broad civic movement.

These protests were accompanied by clashes with the police, tensions with the officers present during the rallies, and physical incidents were also not lacking, with Adriatik Lapaj himself being the protagonist, who at one point offered himself for arrest.

"Arrest me, here I am. Why are you taking pictures of citizens? Why are you scaring people?" Lapaj said on January 4.

Beyond the promises, time showed that the 108-day "protest" in front of the Prime Minister's Office was simply another chapter in the disappointing political battles that Lapaj has undertaken in recent years, further emphasizing the fact that he acted only in his own interests and those of Prime Minister Edi Rama, whom he serves. /CNA
