"It is illegitimate"/ The opposition renews clashes with Endri Shabani, blocks his platform

A tense episode occurred this Monday during the plenary session.

Opposition representatives, as the moment came for discussions on the draft resolution "On the evaluation of the activities of the Ombudsman for the year 2025", opposed giving the floor to the head of this institution, Endri Shabani.

The opposition argued that Shabani was elected illegally and therefore requested that the draft resolution be discussed.

"Let's move on to discussions. He was elected illegally, he is illegitimate," said opposition representatives.

The clashes between the opposition and Shabani are long-standing, and they deepened after his swearing-in on December 18, 2025, in the Assembly, when the latter greeted them with kisses.

His candidacy was sent to the Assembly with the signatures of opposition MPs, who later withdrew. But the majority did not accept the DP's request to withdraw the signatures and elected Shabani to this position with only their own votes. /CNA
