Balla ironizes: I hope there is white smoke in the DP so that they can return to

The Chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, presented today to the Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs the draft law on amendments to the Civil Code, describing it as another concrete step in the process of harmonizing Albanian legislation with European Union law.

At the beginning of his speech, Balla referred to the absence of opposition MPs in the Assembly and committees, expressing his belief that they should return to parliamentary work.

"I believe that my opposition MP colleagues will also come to the Albanian Parliament. I hope that at 11:00 there will be white smoke, so that they can return to parliamentary work, to vote on the laws related to the approximation of legislation with the acquis communautaire ," Balla said.

Balla emphasized that while Albania is at an important stage of the European Union membership process, any legal intervention related to approximation with European standards has direct importance for this process.

Balla focused on the proposed amendments to the Civil Code, which aim to transpose EU Directive 2024/2853 "On liability for defective products", as well as approximation with Directive 2011/7 "On combating late payment in commercial transactions".

"The draft law clarifies that the manufacturer's liability towards the injured person cannot be limited or excluded by contractual agreement or by law ," declared Balla.

Also today, Balla presented the changes to the Civil Code to the Committee on Economy, Employment and Finance, as well as to the Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration. /CNA
