Lulzim Basha has spoken about Sali Berisha's declaration "non grata" and his exclusion from the parliamentary group after this decision.

Invited to "MCN TV", Basha said that he was shocked by the US decision and stated that he negotiated for Berisha to be called suspended and not expelled, since the Americans, according to him, did not even want him in Parliament.

"The first feeling when the decision was published was a feeling of shock, shock, which came because of the extremely harsh and direct language that was used, major corruption, enrichment of oneself, family members, allies, interference in public processes and I want to I say, yes, the shock came in two aspects. The first work, because Mr. Berisha himself had invested in the image of a man who fought corruption and an image that PD had continued to fight in this image, and the second, came precisely from the fact that this announcement came only weeks after the result of April 25 and what we had experienced as an election massacre. So, to put it bluntly, I was not the only one who thought, we are waiting for Rama to be declared 'non grata', for much more serious things, when we receive this notification about Berisha. If you ask me about that day, this was the first reaction.

The nature of the decision, it is useless to deny that in those first days we thought of all kinds of scenarios. Of course, we had our official, diplomatic, but also direct communications with various actors of the then administration and our friends in the USA. We have been told by reliable friends, not only mine, but also Berisha's, that this is a decision that is not made easily, it is not made by a single person, it is not made by a single agency, and we have been told that the decision is announced by DASH, but is handled by 15 representatives of different agencies. So, as my friend told me in the early days, he gave way to realism, that we were facing a political, institutional reality and not a simple act of lobbying, as a bad fact, perhaps from the friend and then from the agenda he followed, Mr. Berisha. This decision was made in a procedure that involved 15 American institutions.

The request was for his exclusion, not even to enter the Parliament. While using all my international political capital, which has never been little or modest, the decision I communicated was his suspension from membership, until the case is clarified, which he had stated that he would pursue in court and institutional. As a decision that was welcomed by the US, it reflected an apparent compromise from the US side, with the initial request. This should have been a closed station at that moment, which would have given the opportunity to a democratic party, unscathed by the war started by the gentleman, to fight the real battle that Albanians were waiting for, for elections, corruption, organized crime , leaving aside the individual problem of Mr. Berisha and waiting for the investments he would make to give the right result or not, but giving the opportunity to DP to continue the mission.
