Dismissal of Veliaj/Teliti: PS is deliberately delaying it

The Deputy Chairman of the Tirana Municipal Council, Dorian Teliti, has stated that the Socialist Party is deliberately delaying the dismissal of Erion Veliaj.

Although Prime Minister Edi Rama politically dismissed Veliaj by placing Manastirliu as a candidate for the race, and although he asked the Municipal Council to meet for procedures, there has not yet been a meeting for this and according to Teliti, this is being done intentionally.

"It's a late day. A late day because we have demanded Veliaj's dismissal...and Erion Veliaj should not have taken the mandate, because we know very well how he took it in 2023. But he took it the way he took it with '5D', he would 'dress' it with his friends with money, with strength, and so on. Legally he was the mayor. The moment he was arrested in February of this year, in a democratic country that aspires to integrate into the European Union countries, a mayor resigns.

But still we waited 3 months, as the law says, so that one of his deputies can replace him. And in May, the DP group, the DP advisors, submitted our request for an urgent meeting of the Municipal Council, to address the legal situation of the mayor, and automatically leads to his dismissal. A request that was never addressed by the Municipal Council, it was even denied. It was never put on the agenda, until last week when the 'big one' ordered his SP advisors to meet urgently and to do exactly what the opposition has been asking for 4 months ago.

However, the days are passing and we are not getting together. Even the order of the great one is not getting anywhere. What is happening within the group of advisors of the Socialist Party?

They already have a candidate. They have started the campaign on one side, while they are not dismissing the old one. So, apparently and based on the information we have, that Veliaj group has its own remnants. And normally, the prime minister wants the decision-making to be with all the votes of the Socialist Party, although he forgets that there will also be all the votes of the Democratic Party. It will be one of the decisions that will be approved with the 61 cards of the Municipal Council, but he wants it to be a unanimous decision-making within his own party. Something that apparently he has not achieved and they are gathering today, I will give him the next resume, the next training, to tell him how important it is to gather and vote", said Teliti./ CNA
