"We have a prime ministerial republic"/ Media: Changes to the Constitution, control of the Assembly and the opposition

The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, stated today that the opposition is endangered by new changes that contradict the Constitution, which aim to control not only the Assembly, but also the opposition.

Invited to the show 'Log.', Mediu said that the country is under a prime ministerial republic.

According to Mediu, another concern is the state of Parliament, which he considered to be in decline.

"One of the biggest concerns of the US and which the US embassy in Tirana has also conveyed is the drug cartels. Many Albanians are involved in trafficking in South America. This was also told to the head of SPAK during his recent visit to the US. This Parliament is degrading more and more. This is now a prime ministerial republic. With the changes he is making, not only do they contradict the Constitution, but he seeks to control the entire Assembly, including the opposition. The establishment of committees should have been discussed. He is an elected MP and cannot control the Parliament, it should be the opposite. Parliament is not just a debate, there is no law-making process anymore," said Mediu. /CNA
