Refugees in Gjadër/Rama for "La Repubblica": No immigrant can
Prime Minister Edi Rama

The camp for immigrants in Gjadër in Lezha is expected to be put into operation next week, after the agreement signed between Albania and Italy. About 400 refugees will be settled in this camp in the first phase.

Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke about this agreement in a recent interview given to the Italian media "La Repubblica".

The head of the government has stated that the centers for immigrants have nothing to do with the Albanian government. Asked if he is worried that the pact between the two countries could fail, the prime minister said that there is no reason to worry and this will only happen if there is a reason or when Italy asks to share the concern . Rama makes it clear that the agreement does not provide for the emigrants to leave the camps and move freely, as in such cases the Albanian security forces will intervene.

"Actually, I am very calm, because the relationship between Italy and Albania, during these decades, has taught me that when Albania needs to worry, it is never alone. Thanks to Italy, first of all", he declared.

When asked that some European countries want to copy the Italy-Albania agreement, the prime minister emphasized:

"It may be repetitive, but first I would have to understand who the other de facto couple in Europe is, consisting of an EU member state and a European state that is not yet a member of the EU: at the moment I have a hard time seeing it. The center was planned to open on September 1, but due to delays in the works, it has been postponed until today."

The agreement with Italy for immigrants was signed in November last year between Prime Minister Rama Meloni and then ratified by both parliaments./ CNA
