Rama: Prefects will be deputy interior ministers in the territory

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that prefects will receive new powers and will no longer be just officials overseeing the decisions of mayors. They will act as deputy interior ministers on the ground.

Rama said the government is strengthening the firefighting fleet and plans to have all the vehicles manufactured in Albania. The first orders have been placed and production will be carried out domestically, increasing state partnership and local benefits.

The Prime Minister added that a fund for civil emergencies has been created and new tools will be deployed to deal with the fire season, including infrastructure interventions in cooperation with the Civil Protection Agency.

He also mentioned that major investments are being made in tourism and infrastructure and that a new phase has begun within the Socialist Party in the service of citizens, where reflections will be made on the main figures.

"The prefects will take on another power, the project has been done and they will no longer be the people who sit and sign the mayors' decisions. They will be deputy interior ministers in the territory."

We will also begin to increase the firefighting fleet.

We want the state to become a guarantor partner and benefit as much as possible, not only the firefighters but all the vehicles we will produce in Albania. We have started to place the first orders and we will make them here.

We have committed a fund for civil emergencies by making new means available. We are close to a season where fires begin. We have built a structure including the Civil Protection Agency to carry out interventions of an infrastructural nature. These are the works that we are doing. Major investments are going towards the beginning of implementation in tourism and infrastructure.
