Security and defense in Albania/Medium: Lack of special institutions and serious

MP and leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, today focused on a broad analysis of defense policies and strategies in Albania and Kosovo.

Invited to "Syri TV", Mediu raised the concern that in Albania not only are there no serious discussions on security issues, but there are also no special institutions, which according to him are being "replaced" by the Prime Minister's articulations.

"I think that Kosovo's concern is justified, but I hope that one day Albania's concern will also return, since we are a nation. Because it is impossible, it is unacceptable to justify ourselves that, as we once said, Serbia cannot do anything, at a time when it has continuously provoked, with troops, with the support of mercenary troops and others in northern Kosovo, and the developments are such that we must take measures with our partners.

What Vu?i? says regarding this alliance between Croatia, Albania and Kosovo is that it was a relationship module that, in its essence, does not have any tendency towards a military organization or military interaction that could threaten Serbia.

First of all, NATO is a defensive alliance, it is not an alliance, that is, aggressive. Second, this is a type of military cooperation that I hope will not stop here, but will expand with all other NATO member countries and lead to the creation of several military structures ready to withstand any possible aggression in the Balkan region and not by sleeping because we have article five and NATO protects us.

Before article five, there is article three, there is article four, and until the decision on article five comes, we do not know what, that is, the damage may have been done in an aggressive moment of Serbia or of Serbia's partnership with Russia in the Balkan region. And I am not saying this, you have it in all the analysis that NATO does, that is, in its summits, the concern that there is in the Balkan region, you have it in the National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Trump regarding the influence of Russia and China in the Balkan region.

Therefore, all of these must be taken and analyzed seriously by Albania, which is a NATO member state, but which unfortunately never sits down to seriously discuss security issues. Unfortunately, we do not have institutions, we do not have a National Security Council, we only have the wishes expressed by a single man, who unfortunately has united our foreign policy with Serbia, and this is Edi Rama.

I think that first of all, that is, when we talk about such things, there is a need for a clear political will. There is a need for a clear institutional stance. Then specialists come and get to work. I don't know that either at the technical level or elsewhere we have taken a stance in relation to the developments in Serbia. Neither military committees, nor at the level of ambassadors, nor even at NATO summits.

Even the stance that was recently taken to unify our foreign policy in relation to the EU with Serbia, clearly shows that we do not see Serbia as a problem, we do not see it as an adversary, but we see it as a partner. And this is an extremely great damage to our foreign policy, our European path, but especially for Kosovo.

We must do everything possible to increase our political relationship, political understanding on security issues with other NATO member countries in the Balkans, because it is very important to understand how we can invest 5% in defense, because it is not a budgetary exercise, but it is a matter of increasing operational capacities, interaction with the armed forces of NATO member countries, the sustainability of these investments, to then see these investments also turned into economies of scale to benefit economically, but especially in partnership with the American or even European military industry.

And so far we have no discussion of this, of what is happening. So we have no institution to speak, we only have one man who, in essence, thinks he knows everything and controls everything and has turned it into an absolute monarchy, but in a madness that deviates from our position as a NATO member country or a member country that will become, a country that will become a member of the European Union", said Mediu./CNA
