The competition for the construction of the new commercial port in Porto Romano is open. 15 international companies have expressed interest in the construction of the new port, which will cost 427 million euros.

In his speech, Prime Minister Edi Rama said the commercial port in the center of Durrës is an environmental wound, a physical wound that has continuously caused great damage to the perspective and image of the city. 

He called a new chapter the project for the new port in Porto Romano, which will be commercial. 

"This is another very meaningful moment, because when we say we will do this or that and when it comes to such projects from word to word it is a whole project. The port of Durrës in the center of the city is an environmental blight , a physical wound that has continuously caused great damage to the perspective and image, but also a wound in the socio-economic aspect. The removal of the port of Durrës from the city center and its placement in this one, entirely with a topology with dimensions of the new one is a new chapter," said Rama./CNA
