Rama and Koçiu inspect the Psychiatric Hospital in Vlora: Modern

Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu, inspected the new premises of the "Ali Mihali" Psychiatric Hospital in Vlora.

Minister Koçiu said that the Vlora Psychiatric Hospital has invested in reconstructing and building from scratch 2 houses that are called protected for patients suffering from mental health problems.

"The building where we are here is a building that serves male patients, with a capacity of 60 beds, and the same thing has been done in the building for female patients, in which a specialized service is also offered to all those patients who are treated here," said Koçiu.

Minister Koçiu also said that the Hospital was built in 1926 and was a completely depreciated structure, and explained that the first investment was made in 2015 with the treatment of the structure that accommodates those patients who need acute treatment in the two protected houses for male and female patients.

The Minister underlined that the value of the investment in infrastructure and equipment for these two houses is 2.6 million euros from the state budget.

"Specialized service is offered not only with psychological treatment, but also with psychological therapy with multidisciplinary teams. On this floor where we are located, we have 5 patient rooms, while on the floor above there are 20 other rooms according to all standards. The way in which patients with mental health problems are treated has also changed; we have created conditions as close to the community as possible, rehabilitating them so that they do not feel isolated," said Koçiu.

At the end of her speech, Koçiu focused on the importance being given to improving the overall hospital infrastructure that provides mental health care services.

"This is not the only hospital we are intervening in. We are also intervening in the Elbasan Psychiatric Hospital and the Psychiatric Hospital within the QSUT," Koçiu said./CNA
