"Why aren't we like Italy and Germany"/ Rama: It's not easy

Prime Minister Edi Rama has spoken about Albania's development during his government.

In the "Flasim" podcast, Rama stated that Albania has made a historic leap, starting from a very poor institutional and state heritage, but at the same time he admitted that this transformation has not been easy at all.

Referring to Albanian citizens who ask why we are not like Germany or Italy, Rama stated that this is a challenge that cannot be avoided.

"We started from the poorest institutional and state heritage of all, and if you consider the kilometers we have traveled from where we started, I believe that Albania is absolutely right in the position that it has truly made an extraordinary leap forward."

The bad is forgotten, but the good never ends. But when we turn our heads and sometimes we see some images that make us say, "Did we live here?"

Meanwhile, the thing we are lucky about is the EU, because it gives us the opportunity to accelerate cultural change because no matter how much you want laws, organizational charts, the behavior of the administration and the state is something that is formed over a long period of time. We look at other countries, but we forget that Germany and France have centuries-old administrations, here is Greece, which is close to us.

It is not easy to make this transformation. This is our curse, that we are in this place. The curse in this sense that we have truly made a historic breakthrough, but we are surrounded by stronger competitors and people, Albanians have the right to say 'I go to Italy and Germany, I am like them. Why is Albania not like them?'

It is a challenge that cannot be avoided, luckily, in the EU, as a point of reference and support, a great leap can be made because if you look at the change here, we must bear in mind that to date, we have achieved this with very little external support if you calculate what support Poland, Hungary, Greece have had - there is no question of it, the Czech Republic, the funds, the support, billions and billions invested in their capacities, outside of their internal capacity.

At a certain point, I told my friends that "we will no longer hold bilateral meetings just like the usual ones, but I want that in every bilateral meeting that takes place here, and thank you for coming and wherever we go, I want a laptop and we will present you with simple data on the difference in treatment between countries that are in the EU and us as the EU's contribution per capita. Because we went through the pandemic and someone said that Greece is giving this and that, but they have an extra fund that comes to them from abroad", said Rama./ CNA
