Albanians in the spring of 2025 will vote to elect their political representatives in the parliament.

Currently, the political parties have started the internal organization, where the two biggest forces, the democratic and the socialist, have decided and made public the names of the political leaders of the districts.

PD is more consolidated today, but it seems that it has not yet overcome the divisive situation created a few years ago. In an interview for CNA TV, DP MP Ina Zhupa underlined the strengths of the DP and those that need to be improved, where the most important one remains complete union.

"The Democratic Party has its strengths and weaknesses in this electoral campaign that is expected to take place for the 2025 elections. A very important element is the fact that the opposition is facing the political imprisonment of its leaders, the head of the DP, Mr. Sali Berisha, which is a blow to the campaign if he continues to be kept in isolation. On the other hand, DP has the strongest point of trust of citizens and a program that responds to the needs of Albanian citizens.

What we need to do and what we need to improve is related to the fact that we still have in certain branches in Albania, the problems related to the complete union after the situation that happened in DP. I want to underline that we have remained unconnected with organized crime, or other forms of buying votes or manipulating elections, and this is another strong point and we will not change for the sake of the system that Edi Rama has created", Zhupa told CNA TV.  

For Zhupa, the creation of parallel political parties born from deputies elected by the right-wing vote does not serve the opposition, but it can bring water to Edi Rama's mill.

"We have to reach a moment that each of these political movements that originate from the DP and that have the opportunity to join 99% of the ideas of the DP, can be incorporated as they have the opportunity, either in the coalition or in the factions that allow the statutes of PD. I don't understand the tendency to fragment the opposition vote because it actually serves Edi Rama, even though this may not be their tendency, but the action brings water to Rama's "mill", unlike in 2021 It is a big risk that they are questioning their positions as opposition and also in the electorate whether their real goal is to give the government some oxygen find a way to accumulate all energies within the DP", said the DP deputy to CNA.

As for the development of primaries in the Democratic Party, Zhupa said that this is sanctioned in the statute and that it is a process that serves to produce the best candidates for deputies and unite the Democratic Party./ CNA
