The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reacted to the statement made by the Serbian Foreign Ministry.
In the announcement made by Foreign Affairs, it is stated that Serbia is trying to bring back the shadows of the past in a region that is moving towards the future.
Further, the Foreign Ministry says that it is regrettable that Serbia relies on Dick Marty's discredited report.
Announcement of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania expresses its deep regret for the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, dated 4 October 2025, which attempts to bring back the shadows of the past over a region that is trying to move towards the future. This statement raises a series of unfounded accusations and claims, which Albania strongly and decisively rejects.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania finds it appropriate to remind the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia of some historical truths related to the real causes of the tragic events of 1999, events that brought about murder, ethnic cleansing and the forced expulsion of about one million Kosovo Albanians from their homes.
It is unfortunate that the statement of the Serbian Foreign Ministry is still based on a now discredited Dick Marty Report, when the facts investigated by domestic and international authorities have clearly proven that the claims raised there are a pure fabrication, without any factual evidence.
These untruths, internationally recognized as attempts to tarnish the image of Albania and Kosovo, can no longer be used to evade the responsibility of history. History is not rewritten with rhetoric, it is remembered with responsibility.
In this context, any attempt to subvert the truth and switch the roles of victim with aggressor is unacceptable and runs counter to every spirit of peace and reconciliation that our region seeks and deserves.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania expresses its deep conviction that our region needs reconciliation, mutual respect and sincere cooperation in the spirit of good neighborliness, not a return to the language of accusations and victimization.
Only in this way can we finally free ourselves from the shadows of the past and build together a future in peace, security and prosperity, a Balkans united in our European family, to which we belong by our roots and aspirations.
Albania has been and will remain ready for comprehensive regional cooperation, in the spirit of good friendship, dignity and responsibility towards our citizens./CNA
