Lawyer Brizida Gjikondi, in an interview with CNA, spoke about the wiretaps conducted in Durrës prison against Mayor Erion Veliaj.
Gjikondi has stated that the publication of wiretaps is something that happens in every country in the world, despite the fact that it may harm a person's reputation.
Gjikondi emphasized that as long as we are talking about things that are of public interest and not about things that are personal, since they are two different issues, there is no violation, not only in the case in question, but many interceptions that involve high-ranking figures in Albanian politics. It would be good if they were made available to Albanians to read and there were no influences, opinions, or different people.
According to the lawyer, the Strasbourg Court has determined in dozens of decisions that the publication of court and prosecutorial wiretaps does not constitute a violation when published by the media, as the public interest is first and foremost, and then the reputation of a specific person against whom these wiretaps are made.
"I think these are moments of truth. The Albanian media suffers from extreme immorality and a shift away from the moral axis of the journalistic profession to offer Albanians the truth and then leave the facts and all the information provided to the audience. Not only now in the publication of the answers, but several times it has happened that Albanians see that journalism is naked.
Journalism in Albania is one of the few institutions that does not have a law that regulates it. There is an old and backward code of ethics and there is no serious organization where journalists have a cooperative and moral spirit towards each other. The publication of wiretaps is something that happens in every country in the world, despite the fact that a person's reputation may be damaged.

Publications happen everywhere. "Powers in Albania are not separated. For the first time, the power of justice is being separated, which is no longer under the leadership of politics. We know very well that politics was accustomed to having all powers under its feet, and in many cases to using them in an abusive manner," said Gjikondi./ CNA
