Some representatives of the opposition met this Wednesday with the Acting Chairperson of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Clarisse Pasztory.

At the table were Gazment Bardhi, Oerd Bylykbashi, Petrit Vasili and Fatmir Mediu.

The chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, reveals details of the meeting.

Through a statement to the media, Bardhi says that he discussed with the head of the OSCE in Tirana the blocking of the work of the Electoral Reform Commission and the position of the majority.

He says that the Electoral Reform should be consensual, comprehensive and transparent, and should start with the undoing of the unilateral changes of 2020.

"I thanked him for the commitment that OSCE-ODIHR has given for the elections in Albania over the years. I reiterated that for the opposition Electoral Reform is an absolute priority, which has been blocked for 2 years and continues to be blocked by Edi Rama, not allowing proportional representation of the opposition in this Commission.

I informed him that for the opposition, the farce of "resuming work" only by the majority, without respecting the will of the opposition, is a big mockery of the Albanians, repeating the things that were done once as a farce 2 years ago.

The request to ODIHR for assistance published a few days ago in the media is a repetition of the same request made on June 17, 2022. Although ODIHR on July 14, 2022 has confirmed readiness for assistance and requested contact points, not a single step jumped further. The repetition of the same documents and the same agenda is a farce to sell to the Albanians a job that has not been done for 2 years without any explanation and that they have no intention of doing. They just want to keep it blocked, to pretend they are working, but without producing anything concrete.

If the opposition in the Parliament had not raised the concern for 4 months about blocking the work of the Electoral Reform Commission and the need to hold accountable the colleagues who have not done what we mandated them to do and trusted them 2 years ago, the situation would continue to be left into oblivion according to the interest of Edi Rama for not guaranteeing the standards for free and fair elections.

The Electoral Reform must be consensual, inclusive and transparent, and must start with the undoing of the unilateral changes of 2020. Attempting to repeat the same scenario as that of 2020 for an electoral reform without opposition consensus, would undermine the elections of next yet to start.

For the reform to be consensual, comprehensive and to address the real problems of the elections, it is necessary for the opposition representatives to have the confidence of the opposition deputies, and not to be there as an expression of the will of Edi Rama or a minority that has mandates from the people opposition, but acts detached from the interest of the opposition people. Consensus and inclusiveness with the unilateral will of Edi Rama cannot and will not exist," the statement said./ CNA
