Prime Minister Edi Rama gave an interview to "Corriere della Sera" where he talked about the work done during 2024.

According to Rama, 2024 was a marked year as Albania finally sat down at the negotiating table for EU membership.

The prime minister said that the government's goal is for Albania to be a member of the EU in 2030.

"It was a year marked by a sigh of relief, as we are finally sitting at the negotiating table for membership in the European Union, after a long journey of reforms, full of difficult obstacles. The feeling is like that of sailors who, after a long voyage, finally see land. I am not a prophet. I hope in 2030.

Everything that will lead us to the great historical step of joining the European Union and transform Albania into a country where the past cannot hold the future hostage. The problem is perhaps that today's leaders, especially in Europe, have fewer opportunities to influence. This is because fundamental issues have gone beyond the control of national governments, while the European Union remains an unfinished creature, and that is the biggest issue."

Rama also spoke about the elections in May, where he said that he humbly awaits the votes of the Albanians.

"It is not for me to give myself an assessment. Next May, I will humbly welcome the vote of the citizens, because that is what matters. Running for a fourth term and having a support that promises a lot is already something special", said Rama.

As for relations with Italy, Rama said that the relationship is too special to be limited by ideological affiliations.

"I would not see it as an ideological issue. As I have often said, we have a very special relationship with Italy to be limited by ideological affiliations", said the Prime Minister./ CNA
