Not sending Xhaçka's mandate to the Constitutional/EU Delegation: It

The delegation of the European Union in Tirana has reacted to the fact that yesterday the Assembly voted against sending the mandate of Olta Xhaçka to the Constitutional Court.

In the reaction to the media, the EU Delegation said that it is not a step in the right direction and that the implementation of the decision of the Constitutional Court is essential.

The EU delegation underlines that this is related to institutional checks and balances in the country's democratic system.

"We have also expressed our concerns in the last report on the Rule of Law in Albania, regarding the fact that some decisions of the Constitutional Court have not been implemented by the Parliament, including in relation to this issue, where the decision of the Constitutional Court dates back more than a year and a half ago (January 2023).

We were encouraged by the fact that the Speaker of the Parliament, during the opening of the parliamentary session last week, emphasized as a priority the need for the Assembly to follow the remaining decisions of the Constitutional Court.

What happened yesterday is not a step in the right direction.
